About Live Music at Mission Hill

Live music & dining at our Mission Hill flagship

Mission Hill is a small Thai kitchen and sushi bar where, on most nights, a duo or trio plays alongside dinner service. The room is intimate by design — kept to a conversational volume so the music complements the meal rather than competing with it. Live music wraps by 10:30 pm; the kitchen continues a little later.

About the room

  • Live music: 12:00 pm to 10:30 pm, seven days a week, with most sessions during dinner service.
  • Musicians: up to three instrumentalists and two vocalists at a time on our small stage.
  • What we host: instrumental music, vocal music, karaoke, and Thai cultural dance.
  • Volume: kept at a conversational level (around 70 dB) throughout service.
  • Indoors only: live music happens in the dining room. To honor our neighbors, we keep the doors and windows closed while a set is on.
  • Seated dining: the room is set for a meal — the stage sits along one wall and tables face the floor.

The Mission Hill floor plan

The room is intimate by design — the stage sits along one wall, the dining room flows around it, the sushi bar runs the back. Seats close to the music are limited and book up first; reserve early for live-music nights.

What we serve

Full Thai kitchen, sushi bar, and an omakase counter on most evenings, with a wine, sake, and full bar program alongside. For a sense of the menu, see our Mission Hill menu.

Some sections of the menu are only available during certain hours (sushi at the bar, omakase, brunch dishes), and a few items may run out or be limited on busier nights. Your server will know what’s on right now — don’t hesitate to ask.

Reservations

Reservations are held for 15 minutes past the start time. If your party hasn’t arrived within 15 minutes without a heads-up, the table may be released — please call or email if you expect to be late.

Minimum spend on music nights

Live-music nights carry a $35 per person food and beverage minimum, fully credited from your bill. Where applicable, ticket prices count toward your minimum. Taxes and gratuity are separate. Your reservation is for the full evening — dining and music together.

Refunds & cancellations

No refunds within 48 hours of the reservation. For cancellations made more than 48 hours in advance, we refund to the original payment method within 5–7 business days.

If we cancel or reschedule a session, guests receive a full refund or the option to transfer to the rescheduled date.

Reservation transfers

Reservations and tickets are transferable. To pass yours along, email events@laughingmonkcafe.com with your booking ID and the new guest’s name and email at least two hours before the start time.

Age & ID

Music-side tables are 21+. Live music plays in the front of the dining room, kept at a conversational volume — seating closer to the stage is reserved for guests 21 and older so the room stays focused. The rest of the dining room is family-welcome throughout, whether or not music is on.

A valid government-issued photo ID is required for alcohol service and for music-side seating during a live session. Special events (cooking classes, tastings, private dinners) follow their own age policy noted on each listing.

Larger parties

For groups of six or more — birthdays, work dinners, celebrations — please email us at events@laughingmonkcafe.com so we can plan the seating and timing around the music. Buyouts and private dinners are arranged separately on our private dining page.

Dress

No dress code — come as you would to a relaxed dinner. Most guests land somewhere between casual and smart casual.

Photography

Personal photos are welcome. Professional gear (cameras with detachable lenses, video rigs, audio recording) needs prior approval from our team. We sometimes photograph the room for social media — please let your server know if you’d prefer not to be in shots.

Comfort of all guests

We may ask anyone whose behavior disrupts other guests’ comfort or safety to leave. No refunds in those cases.

Accessibility

Mission Hill is ADA-accessible. If you need specific accommodations, email or call us at least 48 hours ahead so we can prepare the seating.

Getting here

We’re at 737 Huntington Ave, two minutes from MBTA Green Line E (Brigham Circle). Street parking and metered lots are nearby. Full details on our Mission Hill location page.
