Tax-Exempt Purchases
We make it easy for qualified organizations
We love working with nonprofits, schools, government groups, and other tax-exempt organizations — and we want your tax-exempt status to be as easy to use here as it is anywhere else. Submit your paperwork once below, we'll verify it, and we'll set you up with a short customer code so checkout at any of our restaurants is quick and accurate.
What We Need From You
Massachusetts requires us, as the seller, to keep a properly completed exemption certificate on file for any sale where we don't collect tax. Two short forms do the job:
- Form ST-2— your organization's exemption certificate issued by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. (Resellers: send us your Form ST-4 instead.)
- Form ST-5 — the Sales Tax Exempt Purchaser Certificate. You fill this out and sign it; it references your ST-2 number.
You can use a single ST-5 as a blanket certificate for ongoing purchases — no need to fill one out every visit.

A quick note: Massachusetts treats prepared meals a little differently than retail goods, and not every otherwise-exempt organization is exempt from the meals tax. If you're not sure your group qualifies, check with your accountant before submitting — it'll save everyone a step.
One Important Note About Payment
Massachusetts requires the payment itself to come from your organization — an organization credit card, organization check, or ACH from an organization account. Personal credit cards (even when your organization reimburses you afterward) do not qualify, and our staff won't be able to waive the tax in that case. This is a state rule we have to follow as the seller, not a Laughing Monk policy.
